Bio + CV

Website.RobPhoto.5.20.15Rob Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Los Angeles from the age of five with his father, Harry, mother, Grace and his brother, Ray. Much of his life has been centered around the areas of music, art, health, meditation and the study of Eastern thought and philosophy.

His work, in the field of commercial art, was, in his own art business, as a photo retoucher to the advertising and entertainment industries. This was before the digital age. During the last twenty years of his retouching business, he was located across from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Rob’s dream, however, was to produce his own images, and this was implemented in 1990.

Since then he has produced a number of series of art, including presently: Angels of Protection, The Surfing Series, The West Series, The Western Haikus, The Lakota Spirits, The Art of Poetry, The NuWest and Dreams Above the River (photography by Jayme Odgers). The book, Angels of Protection / True Angels Stories in the Modern Age was published in 2010. This book, compiled by Rob and his writing partner, Angela Taylor, was published by Creative House Press in Austin, Texas.

Rob’s work is mixed media, including the use of photographic dyes, paints, sand, glitter, airbrush, gels, collage and other materials. His work utilizes the palettes he created from his days as a retoucher. These are pieces of tracing paper in which he mixes colors – paints, dyes, gels, and which he cleans out his brushes and airbrushes.

Rob has participated in many shows in the Los Angeles area, including, the LA County Museum of Art Rental Gallery, (where most of his pieces were either sold or rented before the opening of the show). His work is in a number of collections in the United States. In 2005 he was the featured artist during the Angel Fest, held at the Learning Light Foundation in Anaheim, California.

As a former music major, Rob is also working on a music project with fine artist/illustrator/musician Greg Spalenka.

Rob lives in the Los Angeles area and has two sons, Seth and Ethan.
